Our Approach We wanted to focus on shooting just what we love and do it in an artful way. We love shooting children, families, and senior portraits. We so monthly storybook sessions that we come up with and develop a small story around. Stories include Little Red, Little Boy Blue, and Lost Boys. We also help create custom themes with the goal of the images telling a story specific to a child, senior, or family experience. We like to approach each session with the question, "What if?" What if Little Boy Blue was eating pancakes? What if a superhero had dog? What if a princess enjoyed frosting cupcakes? For example, in our minds Little Red is a little girl who can do lots of things which allows us to be more creative with the stories we tell. After we have our "idea" we melt it down to the most basic elements. We use simple props, simple natural settings, simple activities, and simple outfits. By keeping the shoot simple we allow our subject to shine and tell their own story. Props might include flowers (which we love to use!), vintage books, natural elements like sticks or pine cones, and simple capes. We prefer a homemade and earthy look to our styled shoots.
Working together has brought out the best artist in each of us. We are able to encourage and inspire each other. One obstacle we had to overcome was merging our photo editing styles. We created our Wild Child Watercolor Action Set to mimic the look and feel of film by using grain and soft toning to give our images a constant artful soul.
Both of us taught beginner photography workshops before merging to form Wild Child. So we knew from the start we wanted to teach classes as part of our business plan. We created the Wild Child Photography Workshop. This workshop is a one day hands on class held in Holton, Kansas. We are also currently developing an interactive photography manual for the iPad. Teaching inspires us as much as shooting!
Be sure to visit our blog (www.thewildchildphotography.com) and FB site (https://www.facebook.com/thewildchildphotography) to view our current work. We are excited to be doing exactly what we love and have been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to our photography vision. We want to thank Love Photographs Beautifully for sharing more about The Wild Child Photography!
