Mondays With Megan - Meet Tabitha Patrick

Happy Memorial Day and welcome to the second installment of "Mondays With Megan!" I hope you all had a chance to check-out Kim Torres Photography's work last week. 

Today, I want to introduce you to one of my very favorite photographers, Tabitha Patrick of Tabitha Patrick Photography located in Port Huron, MI. Her use of natural light (indoors and out) is flawless. I love her clean, crisp shooting and vibrant colors. And I'm always in awe of how she styles her sessions. Tabitha mainly shoots seniors, fashion editorial and commercial work. In other words, she's one busy lady. Enjoy Tabitha Patrick Photography!

How long have you been in business?

I've been shooting for 5 years, and in business for about 3 years.

 

What's in your camera bag? 

In my bag I have Canon Mark 5d II, 50mm 1.4, 70-700 2.8 IS, and a Lensbaby Composer Pro. 

How would you describe your style? 

My style is continuously changing and developing but I gravitate to a more edgy and modern style.
 

Do you shoot on location or in a studio?

I shoot BOTH! We have SUPER, super cold winters here (it's awful) so I like to stay 

indoors, I have a small studio in my basement. In warmer months though, absolutely on

 location.

What would you be doing if you weren't a photographer? 

I think I'd be in the fashion industry, doing make up, or running runway shows or 

something. LOL! I love the fashion world and pop culture.

Mondays with Megan - Meet Kim Torres

 Welcome to the first installment of "Mondays with Megan." I am so excited to have one of my favorite photographers, Kim Torres, of Kim Torres Photography, as my first featured photographer. Located in San Angelo, TX, Kim is an on-location, natural light photographer. Her pictures are filled with light and vibrant colors! She has an incredible way of making her pictures look absolutely effortless. But my favorite thing about Kim is that she dragged an upright piano out into a field for a Senior Session. Genius! Now, here's Kim Torres!

 

How long have you been in business?

I've officially been in business a little over 1 year, but I've been shooting for almost 2 years. 

What's in your camera bag?

In my bag I have a Canon 5D Mark II: 50 1.2, 70-200 2.8 IS II, 85 1.2 and my macro lens 100mm 2.8. Also, an extra battery and extra CF cards, ChapStick , business cards and more batteries! 

 

How would you describe your style?

My style is very casual and easy going. I used to stress about posing and getting the "perfect" shot, but I soon realized that the "perfect" shot doesn't exist. Some of my favorite shots are the candid ones that I never expect.

Do you shoot on location or in a studio?

I shoot everything on location expect newborns. I have a small indoor studio in my house that is perfect for the little ones.

If you weren't a photographer, what would you be doing?

I was actually going to go to nursing school, but I wasn't very passionate about it. I always wanted to be a photographer but I never dreamed I could make it happen. I finally pushed my fears aside and followed my dreams.

Everyday Beauty | Guest Blog by Ginger Unzueta

I am often asked how my style evolved and what brought me to this point in my photography. It is no secret that I have a great passion for capturing the story of my children.  First and foremost, I give all the glory to God.  My passion, my talent, and my inspiration are all gifts from Him.

When my oldest daughter (who is now almost 9) was younger I took picture after picture of her smiling perfectly at me in her beautiful smocked dresses, with her pretty bows in her hair, at a planned location of choice.  Sometimes these smiles were even real and no doubt, beautiful, but I found I was bored with these pictures.  Her personality and life were missing.  There wasn't a story to them. 

I never put my camera down. I kept picking it up and capturing the beauty around me. (I have consistently taken over 1000 pictures of my own children per month for years—I KNOW, A LOT.)

I fell in love with capturing the everyday for what it is.  I fell in love with the images when my children weren't aware that I was there.  I fell in love with images where I could look back and feel the connection again.  These images told me a story that made my heart skip a beat and made me nostalgic for one reason or another.   I became so alive and passionate as I learned to capture the light and its’ glory around the scene of my children. 

I am very passionate about other mothers learning to capture these same moments with their own children.  I have teamed up with the Bloom Forum and teach a workshop entitled EVERYDAY BEAUTY.  My next class will begin July 22^nd.  You can read more about my workshop here: http://www.everythingbloom.com/workshops.  I will be announcing early registration on my facebook page and blog in early May. 

This is where I normally write a little snippet about the artist, but her about me is poetic and so much better than anything I could have hoped to write.  Her work is captivating and I love her work in my newsfeed, in fact I look forward to it.
